A Love That Rivals Fairytales

October 31, 2024

When Matthew and Michaela said “I do” on Halloween, they didn’t just embrace a spooky day—they made it their own, creating a wedding celebration full of whimsy, wonder, and just the right touch of eerie elegance. Held at the picturesque Moon River Ranch in Satin, Texas, their Halloween wedding was a spectacular fusion of rustic charm, playful costumes, and a magical atmosphere that felt both laid-back and extraordinary.

A Love That Started with "Boo!"

Matthew and Michaela’s love story is as charming as their wedding day. The two met on a social chatting app called Project Z, where Matthew broke the ice with a single-word message: "Boo!" Their connection blossomed during a first date at the Fort Worth Zoo during the height of Covid-19, a time when most of their early memories were made behind masks.

Matthew’s proposal was just as unique as their relationship. During a visit to the petting zoo at Topsey Exotic Ranch and Park, Matthew got down on one knee with a red Ring Pop. After Michaela said yes, he surprised her with her grandmother’s heirloom ring. The moment was made even more memorable when a mischievous baby goat tried to snack on the precious jewel!

A Rustic Dream at Moon River Ranch

Set against the backdrop of Moon River Ranch’s rustic beauty, the day had a laid-back yet unforgettable feel. The venue itself—tucked away in the quiet, sprawling hills of Satin, Texas—was the perfect blend of cozy charm and stunning natural views. Wooden barns, cozy patios, and wide open spaces made for the ideal setting, offering a little slice of country heaven for a Halloween celebration.

With the weather acting in their favor (after some earlier rain threats), the temperature warmed up just in time for the ceremony. There were no frights when it came to the weather, as the skies cleared, leaving a warm, golden glow that bathed the venue in a soft, romantic light. It was as if the universe itself had conspired for a magical moment.

The bride, Michaela, was a vision in a stunning green ballroom gown that looked straight out of a fairytale—and if that wasn't enough to turn heads, her delicate fairy wings added the perfect touch of magic. It was a dress that transported everyone into a world of fantasy, yet with a Halloween twist that captured the essence of the season.

Meanwhile, Matthew, her groom, was equally spirited in a costume that complemented Michaela’s enchanting look. Guests were treated to a parade of creative and spooky outfits, ranging from classic monsters to clever pop culture references. It wasn’t just a wedding; it was a full-on Halloween costume party, with everyone in on the fun.

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that Matthew and Michaela’s wedding would be anything but ordinary. The couple encouraged everyone to dress in their Halloween best, and the result was a colorful parade of costumes that added so much personality to the day. Picture Napoleon Dynamite mingling with witches, zombies, and more. The lively energy was contagious, and it made the entire event feel like a big Halloween celebration with the bonus of a wedding thrown in.

The ceremony itself, held inside a rustic hall, had a light-hearted yet intimate feel. The couple’s vows were a mix of heartfelt promises and playful banter, a true reflection of their personalities. But it was during the ring exchange that things really took a spooky turn. Instead of a traditional ring bearer, Matthew and Michaela surprised their guests with a playful Halloween twist: they announced that the wedding rings were hidden under the chairs, and the guests would need to find them! Those lucky enough to discover the rings became the ring bearers, adding a sense of adventure and surprise to the ceremony. Laughter and excitement rippled through the crowd as the search for the hidden rings began, and it was a moment that perfectly embodied the fun spirit of the day.

A Day to Remember

As the evening came to a close, and the last few guests shuffled out of the barn with candy bags in hand, it was clear that this Halloween wedding was one for the books. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and a few spooky surprises, but more than anything, it was a celebration of two people who embraced their unique, adventurous spirits and created something magical.

Matthew and Michaela’s Halloween wedding at Moon River Ranch will surely be remembered as one of the most fun, creative, and heartwarming celebrations to date—a perfect combination of love, costumes, and just the right touch of Halloween magic.

That's What Love Is

When the rain won’t seem to quit
Darling, take my hand
And we’ll slow-dance through all of it
’Cause that’s what love is.
— lyrics from That's What Love Is by Alexandra Kay

Juvenal and Myriah exchanged vows on September 14, 2024, under the bright sun at Fuego Church in Marlin, Texas. The warm weather added a vibrant energy to the celebration as family and friends gathered to witness their commitment to each other. The church, with its serene atmosphere, served as the perfect backdrop for their heartfelt ceremony. As they promised to support and cherish each other, the love shared between them radiated through the air, creating a memorable experience for all in attendance.

Where it all began…

Juvenal first spotted Myriah at Pops, a lively bar filled with the clatter of pool balls and laughter. He was drawn to her focus on the game, eager to challenge her skill at the table. Despite her clear intention to wait for her brother, Juvenal’s persistence paid off as he invited her to join him for a quick warm-up game. Myriah hesitated, eyeing the clock to gauge her brother's arrival, yet something about Juvenal’s enthusiasm and charm nudged her to say yes. As they squared off, the casual atmosphere of Pops faded into the background, leaving only the excitement of friendly competition between them.

the proposal…

Myriah was nestled comfortably on the couch, enjoying a moment of peace when Juvenal entered the room, his heart racing with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Dropping to one knee, he looked up at her with sincerity in his eyes and declared his love, asking her to marry him. Overwhelmed with emotion, both of them felt tears of joy streaming down their cheeks as Myriah managed to exclaim a heartfelt "yes." In that intimate moment, surrounded by warmth and love, it was clear they were ready to embark on a beautiful journey together.

As a couple…

A typical date night for Juvenal and Myriah is a cherished routine that revolves around dressing up and enjoying each other's company, no matter the destination. Their favorite evenings often find them at a local bar, laughing and playing pool, the clattering balls echoing their playful banter. The anticipation of competition sparks excitement as they take turns lining up their shots, both skilled and good-naturedly teasing one another. Dressed smartly, they blend the thrill of the game with the warmth of connection, making memories that extend beyond the green felt of the table.

Their relationship can be summed up as affectionate, honest, crazy, imperfect, and family. Through the ups and downs, they share a bond that is rooted in deep respect and warmth, where open communication is paramount. Their playful moments often border on the absurd, reminding them that laughter can be found even in the chaos. Imperfections are embraced, as they understand that these flaws add richness to their connection. Above all, they prioritize family, fostering a supportive environment where love flourishes, creating a unique dynamic that is both comforting and vibrant.

The song "That's What Love Is" by Alexandra Kay beautifully encapsulates the essence of her relationship, reflecting both the struggles and the resilience that come with marriage. Through her heartfelt lyrics, she speaks to the inevitable ups and downs that partners face, acknowledging the hardships that can arise. Yet, there is a comforting hope woven throughout the melody — the steadfast belief that love can endure as long as they face challenges together, finding solace in each other's presence. The imagery of slow dancing through life's turmoil serves as a reminder that even in difficult times, their bond remains strong, guiding them toward brighter days.

surprise!

During their reception, they joyfully announced that they are expecting a baby after a two-year journey of trying to conceive. This wonderful news marks the beginning of a new chapter for them, as they have been blessed with a precious gift from God. May their journey ahead be filled with joy, laughter, and countless cherished moments as they embrace the beauty of family together. Smith Family Photography wishes them a lifetime of happiness filled with unconditional love!
